Karmelo Anthony says ‘I’m not accused, I did it,’ breaks down during arrest for Austin Metcalf’s murder: bodycam video

New Body Cam Footage from Murder Trial of Carmelo Anthony

Recently released body camera footage captures convicted murderer Carmelo Anthony emotionally admitting to stabbing Texas teenager Austin Metcalfe. He can be heard telling the police through tears, “I’m not accused of anything. I did it.”

The compelling video, unveiled on Friday by Collin County as part of evidence during Anthony’s murder trial, shows him, at the time just 17 years old, being restrained near the scene of the stabbing at a high school track meet in Frisco.

In the footage, Anthony insists, “I’m not the suspect. I did it,” as school officials report having an “alleged suspect” in custody. He seems to justify his actions, saying that Metcalfe had warned him, which led him to react.

“I’m not being accused. I did it. He put his hands on me. I told him to stop. He put his hands on me,” Anthony explains amid tears.

As officers visibly struggle with their emotions while handcuffing him and taking him away, Anthony asks, “Am I okay?” which illustrates the heavy atmosphere surrounding this tragic event.

Authorities also released footage showing a folding knife, the murder weapon, identified as a $13 item bought from Walmart, alongside numerous photographs documenting the incident.

Prosecutors clarified that during an argument—sparked after Anthony was asked to leave a tent designated for athletes due to a rain delay—he fatally stabbed Metcalfe, who was 17. Though Anthony claimed self-defense, the jury dismissed this notion and found him guilty of first-degree murder, resulting in a 35-year prison sentence.

In addition to the body camera footage, the county made available surveillance video, allowing the public a glimpse of the moments leading up to and following the fatal incident. This footage captures a group of athletes congregating under the tent, though the actual stabbing is not visible due to the distance and quality of the recording.

Prosecutors utilized enhanced video to depict the confrontation that took place. Testimonies indicated that the dispute escalated when Metcalfe confronted Anthony, who was sitting in the tent for his team.

The released materials include disturbing images, such as Metcalfe’s fatal wound, the bloodied jacket of a coach attempting to stem the bleeding, and the knife involved in the tragic event, all painting a stark picture of the incident.
