SWAT Standoff in Albany Ends Peacefully

Updated: 10:25am – Tuesday, April 21, 2026: A SWAT standoff in Albany, Oregon, which resulted in the lockdown of a government building, concluded peacefully on Monday afternoon with the suspect’s arrest, according to officials.

Authorities were alerted around 9:30 a.m. regarding a wanted suspect, identified as 43-year-old Alan William Dude, who was spotted parked outside the Linn County Courthouse. The Albany Police Department shared this information via social media.

When officers arrived, they noticed Dude holding what seemed to be a firearm. Consequently, a secure perimeter was quickly established, resulting in the lockdown of the Linn County Courthouse and Albany City Hall, along with nearby businesses and roads.

Dude missed his scheduled trial that day and, as per arrest records from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, he faces multiple charges of sexual abuse.

A SWAT team was deployed to the scene, where crisis negotiators attempted to reason with Dude, but negotiations did not succeed. Reports indicate that Dude reached for a weapon, prompting SWAT to use less-lethal ammunition to take him down. He was apprehended just before 1:30 p.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the public or law enforcement, although the suspect received treatment for minor injuries at the scene from the Albany Fire Department.

The ministry announced that streets and buildings were reopened around 1:50 p.m.
