Mexican Pyramid Shooter Considered a 'Lone Wolf,' Suspected of Imitating Columbine

Authorities have classified the mass shooting near Mexico City on Monday as a lone wolf incident that resulted in the death of a Canadian woman and injuries to over a dozen individuals, including six Americans. Recent details from the scene suggest the shooter aimed to emulate the 1999 Columbine shootings in the U.S.

The incident unfolded Monday morning when Julio Cesar Jasso Ramirez appeared at the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, opening fire on the crowd with a .38 caliber revolver, as reported by Breitbart Texas. He was also armed with a black knife and carried a bag with extra ammunition.

After the shooting, Jasso engaged briefly with Mexican police, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, and subsequently took his own life, according to information shared at a Mexican government press briefing. Investigators noted that he arrived via Uber and acted independently.

Thirteen victims were reported injured, with seven suffering gunshot wounds and the others injured from falling while trying to escape. Among the injured are six U.S. citizens, alongside individuals from Colombia, the Netherlands, Russia, Brazil, and Canada.

Mexico City Public Security Secretary Cristóbal Castaneda Castillo stated that the attack is not linked to organized crime. Current investigations suggest that the shooter had a history of mental health issues and was possibly inspired by mass shootings from other countries.

Local media noted that Jasso was wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “Dismember and blow yourself up,” referencing the Columbine shootings. Reports also indicated that investigators found an AI-generated image of him alongside the two Columbine perpetrators at the scene.
