‘There is no such thing as a defensive weapon’: Judge tells Scottish girl not to have carried axes

Scottish Ax Girl Testifies in Court

An internet figure known as the “Scottish Ax Girl” provided testimony in the trial of a man accused of assaulting her last August.

Following her account, the presiding judge admonished her about having the weapon in the first place.

The incident dates back to the summer of 2025, when a 13-year-old girl was taken into custody. The event involved a man wielding an ax and a knife in Dundee, Scotland.

Reports note that the man allegedly attacked the girl after making inappropriate comments. Police Scotland has stated that a woman and another girl were also charged in connection with this incident.

The defendants are identified as Ilya Belov, 22, and Nadezha Belova, 20. Both are alleged to have committed violent offenses against several girls aged between 12 and 14. There are claims that Belov was also following four girls, though he has denied the allegations.

During the trial last week, the young girl recounted how the man repeatedly said, “Come here, sexy. I’ll show you how to have fun.” She expressed feeling “offended” and responded by shouting at him.

Another witness, a 13-year-old boy, testified that a woman confronted the group and physically assaulted the girl’s sister. He stated that when the girl attempted to pursue the woman, the man pushed her to the ground.

Additionally, the girl described how the adult male allegedly pushed her sister’s head against a railing, with the adult female reportedly kicking her sibling “in the head.” She mentioned that it was at this point she pulled out the ax and knife from her waistband, an incident that was recorded on video.

The defense attorney for Belov argued that his client didn’t begin the altercation and was simply reacting to provocation. He claimed, however, that a witness had referred to Belov as an “immigrant,” a statement that the girl disputed.

After the young girl’s testimony, Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith cautioned her about carrying the weapon, stating, “It’s not a good idea to carry a weapon in Dundee.” He emphasized that there are no “defensive weapons,” only offensive ones.

Under British law, carrying “knives or sharp objects” in public is an offense, though there are some exceptions for specific circumstances like work or religious practices. Enforcement tends to be strict.

A case noted by the Scottish Prosecution Inspectorate mentioned a gardener found guilty for having an ax in his car door because it was not stored correctly in a tool bag.
