Omar Denies Wealth Accusations; Daughter Continues Activism
Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has refuted claims that she has built a multimillion-dollar fortune since her election to Congress. However, her daughter, Ira Hirschi, remains active in far-left political movements and has been involved in supporting communist causes since she was 12 years old.
Hirschi, now 16, has labeled herself an “angry black girl” and has taken on the mantle of a passionate activist, sharing views that resonate with her mother’s, despite discrepancies regarding Omar’s purported net worth, which some claim could be as high as $30 million—a figure Omar denies.
Recently, Hirschi was suspended from Barnard College for participating in an anti-Israel protest at Columbia University. In 2024, she was among over 100 individuals arrested for trespassing during an encampment at the university.
In a February letter, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer expressed concerns over financial disclosures related to Omar’s husband, suggesting a notable increase in the value of their assets, raising questions among critics about financial accuracy. Omar has stated that their true worth is between $18,000 and $95,000, a claim met with skepticism from some observers.
Hirschi’s history of activism is notable; at 15, she co-founded the US Youth Climate Strike, a movement inspired by Greta Thunberg. Her advocacy was recognized with an award acknowledging her efforts for climate sustainability.
In addition to her protests, Hirschi traveled to Cuba for an event supported by the organization Code Pink, which is connected to pro-communist funding initiatives. Throughout her activism, she has faced challenges but remains committed to her causes, often sharing her experiences and perspectives on social media.
Omar has publicly expressed pride in her daughter’s activism, highlighting her courage and ongoing efforts against social injustices, including recent posts about supporting the Cuban people’s struggles.
