Google Investigates Battery Drain Issues After Pixel Update
It seems many Android users are facing unexpected battery drain following a recent update, specifically the April 2026 update for Google Pixel smartphones. Google is currently looking into these widespread complaints.
According to reports, the complaints about “severe idle drain” are on the rise. An issue tracking site has revealed that over 2,500 users have acknowledged being affected.
This mounting attention suggests that the problem may be quite common. Numerous threads on Reddit and other forums reinforce this notion, indicating the level of concern among users.
As of now, there is no available fix, but Google is urging affected users to provide additional information.
Interestingly enough, the issue doesn’t appear to be confined to a specific model. Users across various Pixel generations, including the Pixel 6 series and the Pixel 10 lineup, are reporting similar issues.
Some users are more vocal about their frustrations. One user shared their experience of the battery not lasting through the day, while another mentioned that they had even replaced their battery, yet the problem persisted.
“This bug literally made me want to cry,” one user expressed, highlighting how their phone’s battery drains after just a couple of hours of light use.
Another commenter stated, “Since the update, it feels like my battery life has been cut almost in half.” There seems to be a common sentiment: users are frustrated, feeling that Google’s premium pricing should guarantee quality both in hardware and software.
Some users have pinpointed potential causes, noting it might relate to their device waking up unnecessarily, consuming power even with the screen off.
Others have shared that their phones drain battery life even while in airplane mode, with some seeing a significant drop in usage time, as if the battery life has been halved.
“My phone is definitely wearing out faster and heating up,” one frustrated user noted, recounting how their device dropped from 65% to 6% overnight.
A recent comment on Google’s issue tracker pointed out that the company only has general battery statistics, which lack the finer details for thorough analysis. They clarified that without bug reports, pinpointing specific applications causing the issue is difficult and have requested users to submit comprehensive reports for further investigation.
