Iran Sets Three Ships Ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Actions Complicate Negotiations in the Strait of Hormuz

On Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) fired on ships navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, adding complexity to ongoing negotiations.

As reported by British military sources, the Revolutionary Guards targeted three vessels in the strait. This incident occurred just a day after President Trump declared an indefinite ceasefire on Truth Social, pending Iran’s agreement to resume face-to-face talks that were initially set to take place in Pakistan.

Reports indicate that the IRGC has also seized two ships. Iranian state media claimed that the military was returning the vessels to Iran.

The ships involved include the Panamanian-flagged MSC Francesca and the Liberian-flagged Epaminondas and Euphoria.

President Trump, reacting to the situation, noted that, considering the divisions within the Iranian government, and at the request of Pakistan’s leadership, military attacks against Iran would be suspended until a unified proposal could be presented. He mentioned, “It’s time for the proposal to be submitted and the discussion to be completed in some way,” indicating an extension of the ceasefire.

The leader of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council strongly condemned the threats and actions against ships in the strait. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez emphasized that “doing nothing is not an option” and called for collective action to ensure freedom of navigation.

As of now, the Pentagon has not provided a comment regarding these developments.
