Mets Snap Losing Streak, but Face New Injury Woes
The Mets managed to escape a potentially disastrous game on Wednesday, winning 3-2 against the Twins at Citi Field. This victory finally brought an end to their frustrating 12-game losing streak.
However, the joy was dampened when Francisco Lindor left the game with a left calf strain, coinciding with Juan Soto’s return from his own calf injury.
Despite some rough moments—like losing a two-run lead and committing some glaring base running mistakes—the Mets pulled through. Mark Vientos delivered a key hit in the bottom of the eighth inning that allowed Brett Batty, who replaced Lindor, to score the go-ahead run.
Luke Weaver wrapped things up by getting the final four outs, striking out Byron Buxton to secure the win.
The game-winning rally kicked off with no outs and a runner on second. Batty and Francisco Alvarez both got walks, leading to Vientos’ crucial hit after he had previously ignored a stop sign in the sixth inning.
This marked the Mets’ first victory since April 7, improving their record to 8 wins and 16 losses, though it’s hard to ignore the uncertainty around Lindor’s injury.
Earlier in the game, Lindor scored after Alvarez hit a double into right-center field, which gave the Mets a 2-1 lead. He appeared to struggle as he rounded the bases and briefly stayed down at home plate before heading back to the dugout. He was ultimately taken out before the top of the fifth inning, with Batty stepping in at third base and Bo Bichette moving to shortstop.
The timing of these injury concerns is unfortunate, especially with Soto just returning from the injured list after a 15-game absence due to his own calf issue sustained while running the bases in San Francisco on April 3.
