DHS Official on Leave Amid Investigation
A senior official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is currently on administrative leave due to an inquiry into various allegations, including indulgent spending, relationships characterized as “sugar daddy” connections, and potential drug use.
The investigation began following a formal complaint against Julia Barbaro, who is 29 years old and serves as the DHS assistant secretary for counterterrorism. This news first surfaced in the Daily Mail.
The individual at the heart of these allegations, a purported divorced father named Robert, claimed to have spent around $40,000 on Barbaro during a three-month relationship that initiated on the dating app Hinge. Supposedly, her profile also appeared on a platform called Seeking, which promotes itself as a place where “love meets luxury.”
Robert stated that Barbaro’s Seeking profile was listed under the name “Alessia” and mentioned that she was looking for a “mutually beneficial” relationship with a “masculine man.” When queried by the Daily Mail, Barbaro firmly denied all allegations.
According to reports, before they parted ways, Robert took Barbaro on lavish trips to places like Aruba, Italy, and Switzerland, purchased her a $3,500 Bottega handbag, and took her to Cartier, a high-end jewelry store.
He also alleged that during these travels, Barbaro spoke about compromising government protocols concerning TSA security and claimed she could obtain VIP access to the Winter Olympics, even stating that “ICE will help me.”
A formal complaint submitted to the DHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) indicated that Robert believed Barbaro was “under financial stress” and warned that her behavior posed a serious national security risk.
A spokesperson from the DHS OIG informed Fox News Digital that there is a longstanding practice of neither confirming nor denying investigations, providing no further comment.
Additionally, Robert shared that he witnessed Barbaro use marijuana multiple times and take Xanax recreationally.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Barbaro described the scenario as akin to a “crazy ex-boyfriend” assembling various claims against her. She expressed surprise that going on vacation with a boyfriend could be viewed as problematic.
Though she acknowledged being expedited through security at Dulles Airport, she denied using marijuana, seeking VIP Olympic access, or having any sugar daddy finance her education, insisting that requesting Robert’s credit card in his name was “somewhat normal.”
This scandal comes shortly after the release of photos featuring former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s husband in compromising situations, which were connected to her dismissal from the DHS. In a past issue, rumors of an alleged affair involving Noem and a top aide were also noted.
Efforts to contact the CIA, Hinge, and Seeking for comments were unsuccessful, and Barbaro was not reachable for further inquiries.
