Katie Porter Surprises Viewers in Debate
During a recent debate, one of the prominent Democratic candidates for California governor made a statement that left many viewers both shocked and confused.
Instead of vowing to safeguard Californians against truckers who couldn’t speak English, former Rep. Katie Porter claimed she would defend truckers from the Trump administration. “The governor of California’s job is to protect Californians, and that includes protecting Californians from Donald Trump at this time,” she emphasized.
When asked whether English proficiency should be a requirement for truck drivers, Porter responded, “I absolutely intend to fight the Trump administration because the governor of California’s job is to protect Californians, and that includes protecting Californians from Donald Trump at this time.”
Porter also pointed out the importance of enforcing traffic laws, noting that California’s Department of Motor Vehicles had previously neglected to regulate drivers convicted of DUI offenses.
After struggling to answer some questions, she shifted her focus to Republican candidate Sheriff Chad Bianco, criticizing his remarks on immigration. “I was surprised that Mr. Bianco would tell black and brown Californians and immigrants who are terrorized and subject to racism that they must ‘overcome’ racism,” she stated. “It’s not something to overcome. It’s something to fight for, and if he doesn’t appreciate this, he doesn’t deserve to represent California’s diverse population.”
Bianco responded by asserting that Porter had misconstrued his comments.
A video of this exchange quickly circulated on social media, where many commentators criticized Porter’s remarks. One user pointed out, “When you know you can control voters with fear and anger, that’s how you talk to them. You know they don’t care about policy or program. Just mention Trump and nothing else matters.” Another user added, “Her strategy is to be anti-Trump and play the racism card. Typical Democrat. As long as voters buy into this, they’ll keep doing it in California.”
Critics continued to voice their opinions, with one remarking, “Just another TDS patient who doesn’t care about the American people and is playing the Trump card. If she had any sense, she’d realize it doesn’t work. She’s just an angry clown.”
Recent polls indicate that Porter is currently tied for fourth place in the race, trailing behind Republicans Steve Hilton and Bianco, as well as Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer, following the exit of former Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell.
