Tourist’s Bachelorette Challenge Draws Attention in Florence
If you happen to be in Italy for a bachelorette party, it’s probably a good idea to appreciate the local historic statues. Some of these statues are, well, a bit revealing, but don’t assume that means they’re there for entertainment.
While it may be deemed inappropriate to point and laugh, maybe it should be, you know, a bit more accepted? I mean, trying to climb onto a statue could be part of some playful challenge. Just think about attempting something like the “Grab That Statue Junk” challenge.
Recently, in Florence, an incident caught the attention of local police. A 28-year-old woman tried to climb on the Neptune Fountain located in Piazza della Signoria, attempting to complete a pre-wedding challenge. The details are a bit murky, but it seems she wanted to touch the statue’s “private part,” according to a city press release.
She scaled over a railing and stepped onto the marble horses as if they were drawing Neptune’s chariot. Caught in the act, she was investigated but apparently didn’t do any significant damage to the historic figure.
The city reported that while she was “riding” the horse, it sustained some minor damage to its hoof and the strap she was holding, but nothing devastating.
Honestly, wouldn’t it be more fun to visit a club or hire entertainment for a private gathering rather than trying to engage with statues from the late 1550s? Sure, a wild story would come out of this, but so would tales from more typical bachelorette activities. This might’ve saved the poor horse hooves from unnecessary wear.
The next steps are now with the local authorities, though what that entails exactly remains uncertain. Repairs are likely, and let’s hope someone handles them soon.
If you’re not into a city filled with slightly risqué statues, well, perhaps Florence isn’t the destination for you.
