Bus Collision Near the Pentagon Injures 23
Two buses collided head-on outside the Pentagon early Friday morning, resulting in injuries to 23 passengers, among them 10 personnel from the Department of the Army.
Video footage of the incident shows a vehicle attempting to slow down while navigating a curve before the crash occurred during the busy morning rush hour.
Emergency responders from Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax counties arrived promptly, transporting 18 individuals to local hospitals while treating the remaining five on-site.
“Around 7:20 a.m. today, an Omni-Ride bus and a Fairfax Connector transit bus collided on the Metro Access Road, injuring a total of 23 passengers. Of those, 10 were Department of the Army personnel,” a statement indicated.
The collision took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the south parking lot of the Pentagon Metro Station, involving the OmniRide bus along with a Fairfax Connector bus.
While sources characterized the incident as a “low-speed collision,” it caused notable disruptions. Bus traffic was redirected to Pentagon City Station, leading commuters to look for alternative transportation.
“The Department of Defense Force Protection Agency is requesting the public to avoid the area while first responders assist the injured and an investigation is underway,” officials stated.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) set up an alternate transportation plan for those affected by the bus closure.
While investigators worked on identifying the cause of the accident, the subway access road remained closed for some time. However, normal service resumed by 11 a.m., as later reported by Pentagon officials.
