The assailant made his way through a security magnetometer, shot a Secret Service agent in the chest, and was subsequently removed from the venue. Following the incident, Trump convened a press conference with various officials to discuss the events that unfolded.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche commented, “Tonight, you witnessed the best and the worst of our country.” He elaborated, saying that while the actions of the assailants showcased the worst, law enforcement’s prompt response illustrated the best. He mentioned that upcoming videos would demonstrate the professionalism of the authorities involved.
Indeed, President Trump shared a video that showed the moment the suspect rushed in and law enforcement quickly responded.
Blanche indicated that the investigation is still active and warned that “indictments are coming soon.” He stated, “The charges will be evident based on the conduct, and we anticipate multiple charges related to the shooting, firearm possession, and any other pertinent issues related to this individual.” He also emphasized, “The investigation has just commenced. Federal law enforcement is working diligently to obtain search warrants and ensure a thorough inquiry.” He assured the public that the Metropolitan Police, FBI, and Secret Service are all continuously engaged in the investigation.
