ATLANTA — It’s interesting to note how much attention Karl-Anthony Towns gets compared to OG Anunoby. But then again, Anunoby’s more reserved nature likely plays a part in that.

Despite this, his impact was undeniably crucial.

In Game 4 of the series against the Hawks, Anunoby delivered an impressive performance, helping the Knicks secure a 114-98 win on Saturday night at State Farm Arena. He led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, along with 10 rebounds, finishing with a game-best plus-19 rating.

While Anunoby’s performance in Game 3 went somewhat unnoticed amidst the Knicks’ loss, he still managed to shoot 7-of-14 from three-point range over the last two games, showing his consistent shooting touch.

“We just shoot, whether it’s contested or not,” Anunoby remarked. “I put in the work, so I always believe I’ll perform well.”

During the game, he made back-to-back threes in the second quarter, which helped push the Knicks’ lead into double digits. He contributed six points in each of the first three quarters before wrapping up with four points in the fourth quarter.

But there’s more to Anunoby’s game than just scoring.

He effectively neutralized Jalen Johnson for most of the matchup, holding him to just 1-of-5 shooting when defending him, according to official league stats. On the other end, the Hawks shot 5 of 15 when Anunoby was their primary defender.

Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the Knicks’ rebounding efforts. Anunoby’s rebound stats have improved recently, recording nine in Game 3 alone.

You have to wonder, was it just him out there?

“Definitely a team effort,” Anunoby explained. “We need to control the boards. It really depends on who we’re defending. Sometimes being on the perimeter makes it tough to grab rebounds, but we work hard to crash the boards and help secure possessions.”

With Jalen Brunson not playing at his best, the Knicks relied on contributions from other players. Anunoby certainly stepped up to the challenge.
