Danny DeVito’s Wrestling Challenge
Danny DeVito, well-known for his role in the comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has seen a refreshing revival in his acting career. Playing Frank Reynolds, his character entered the mix as quite the “scumbag.” In one memorable episode, he introduced his wrestling gimmick: tossing a trash can into the ring, eating the trash, and then hitting his opponent with the can.
Recently, comedian Kevin Nealon threw down a challenge to DeVito, proposing a wrestling match in either WWE or All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He stated on X, “I challenge Danny DeVito to a match in WWE or AEW,” which certainly stirred up some chatter among fans.
Hours later, he added a playful post, “I’m here. Be quiet,” which only fueled interest in the potential showdown.
AEW’s CEO, Tony Khan, appeared intrigued by the idea of booking this match, even getting in on the fun on social media. He posted a photo of Nealon and DeVito from a classic Saturday Night Live skit titled “Hans and Franz,” asking, “Are you guys the ones who own these costumes?” Nealon confirmed he had the costume, to which Khan replied, “Then I invite you all to join me.”
Interestingly, some Reddit users have pointed out that AEW star Chris Jericho seems to be channeling Nealon’s iconic “Mr. Subliminal” character in his performances lately. If this match does happen, it could tie in a lot of nostalgic elements.
In the past, AEW has showcased celebrities in their events, including comedian Wayne Brady at Revolution and social media influencer “Big Boom” AJ, along with his family, appearing in various games. So, who knows? This match could just add another layer of excitement to wrestling entertainment.
