Trump begins 'RINO' removal in Indiana as primary approaches

Former President Donald Trump is endorsing candidates in the forthcoming May 5 primary elections aimed at several Indiana Republican senators who had previously opposed the congressional redistricting maps—an act intended to eliminate them.

In December, 21 Republican state senators collaborated with Democrats to block a proposal that would have redrawn the congressional map, which would have fortified Republican dominance in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Trump expressed a strong stance in a letter sent to these state senators before the vote. He stated, “Those who voted against redistricting and turned their back on Republican success in Washington, D.C., will certainly find themselves in the MAGA primaries this spring.”

He warned that he would make every effort to ensure such senators do not harm the Republican Party or the country again. “Anyone who votes against redistricting and Republican goals in Washington, D.C., will definitely encounter me in the MAGA primary,” he emphasized.

Among the Republican senators facing challenges are James Buck (District 21), Spencer Deary (District 23), Dan Darnuluk (District 1), and others. Interestingly, two senators—Eric Basler (39th District) and Kyle Walker (31st District)—voted against the districting but aren’t pursuing re-election.

Trump’s support kicked off in January with endorsements for challengers such as Paula Copenhaver against Deary and Brenda Wilson against Good. Copenhaver has been described by Trump as a “MAGA warrior” and a strong candidate.

In his comments regarding these candidates, he criticized their opponents, labeling them as RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). For example, he targeted Spencer Deary for betraying his voters by opposing Indiana’s redistricting process.

In a series of endorsements, Trump also supported Jeff Ellington for Basler’s vacant position, calling him “America’s first patriot” and a worthy replacement.

Furthermore, Trump continued to rally for candidates such as Blake Fichter against Holdman and Tracy Powell against Darnuluk. He highlighted Powell’s track record as a businessman and community leader.

On April 7, he voiced support for additional candidates to displace those he considers RINOs, including Dr. Brian Schmutzler against Rogers and Trevor de Vries against Darnuluk, describing both as leaders embedded in community service.

Indiana Governor Mike Brown also backed the redistricting effort, signaling his support for seven candidates endorsed by Trump.
