Florida Pastor Arrested for Bigamy
A pastor in Florida, who serves a community often rumored to include swingers, has been arrested on charges of bigamy. Leslie Williams, 62, was taken into custody at The Villages, a sizable retirement community, owing to an outstanding warrant from Georgia.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Williams is being held without bail as an out-of-state fugitive. His legal troubles trace back to Rockdale County in Georgia, where marriage records confirmed he was still legally married when he tied the knot again.
Officials noted that police in Haines, Florida received a complaint regarding his alleged bigamy, which prompted an investigation that eventually led to the warrant issued by Rockdale County.
Williams, who has authored a book about marital love, had declared on social media that he had been married for years. In a recent post, he announced his remarriage to a woman named Cindy, prompting mixed reactions from friends. One notably commented, “Wow, I thought you were already married. Congratulations!!”
Despite the celebratory tone initially, it seems that the new marriage may have faced issues. Just a couple of months after his announcement, Williams replaced the cover photo of his new wife with an image of a car, later changing his relationship status from “married” to “single.”
His arrest came shortly after a warrant for his arrest was issued on April 3. He is currently held at the Sumter County Detention Center, awaiting extradition.
Interestingly, despite his legal troubles, Williams had published a book in 2017 titled “Love Her Like This: Loving Her Has Never Been Deeper,” where he advocated for deep marital love, expressing a commitment to the sanctity of marriage.
The Villages, where he operates his ministry, has a reputation that includes longstanding rumors about a swinging lifestyle among its residents, alongside reports of higher-than-average sexually transmitted infections.
