California Teacher Receives Prestigious Award
A teacher in California is gaining attention, but it’s not just from her students.
Erin Andrade, who teaches forensic research and biotechnology at the Clovis Center for Advanced Research and Technology, has been honored with the Crystal Apple Award. This award, one of only five given nationally, recognizes teachers for their exceptional contributions in the classroom.
This accolade, provided by School Specialty, highlights “inspiration, leadership, and passion” in educators, placing Andrade among what the organizers refer to as the “gold standard” of teaching professionals in 2026.
Andrade, who incorporates real-world forensic techniques into her curriculum, was chosen from a pool of hundreds across the country. Her recognition aligns with the growing focus on practical, career-oriented educational programs in Central Valley.
“Some days, they come in and create a massive crime scene in the classroom, and they take charge of the investigation,” Andrade shared with local media about some recent activities. “We’re currently learning how to analyze DNA evidence.”
Parents of both former and current students believe her award is well-deserved. “She was my teacher, Kurt,” remarked Breanna Josiah Parris on Facebook. “I love her. She was always so kind.”
Daniel Garcia, another parent, reflected positively on her teaching methods. “She’s a fantastic teacher—very patient with me,” he stated.
One former student of her criminal forensics class praised Andrade online, calling her “absolutely amazing” and emphasizing that the award is “well-deserved.”
A parent of two of her students mentioned, “There are very few like her in our education system. She’s definitely one of a kind!”
Apart from the recognition, Andrade will receive a customized crystal apple trophy, a $500 classroom supplies certificate, and an extra $250 for school resources.
This recognition is part of California’s efforts to introduce engaging, practical learning experiences, blending traditional education with hands-on skills to keep students actively involved.
