Rams’ Secret Deal with Ty Simpson Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft
The lead-up to the 2026 NFL Draft has been filled with intrigue, particularly concerning the Rams and their quarterback prospect, Ty Simpson.
In what appears to have been a low-key operation, the Rams and Simpson held a “secret meeting” to finalize an arrangement in the months leading up to the draft. “We tried to keep this as secret as possible,” Simpson mentioned during an interview. “We knew they were interested, but they clearly wanted to keep it private.”
Simpson seems to have played his part well, maintaining silence throughout the draft process. “I had a secret meeting with my coach, Sean McVay,” he said. “We were just trying to stick to the game plan without letting anyone else in on it.”
However, whispers began to leak through the grapevine. Todd McShay, a podcaster for Ringer, speculated that Simpson could land with the Rams at the 13th overall pick. “I think Les Snead is the biggest wild card in the first round… if we’re really taken with Ty Simpson, we’ll take him at 13,” McShay stated on the “Bill Simmons Podcast,” hinting there might have been some expectations to manage.
Yet, the source of this leak remains unknown. Simpson continued on ESPN Radio, emphasizing that he was instructed to keep things under wraps: “I was told not to say anything because I didn’t want anyone to find out.”
It’s understandable that if word got out about the Rams’ interest in Simpson, other teams might have jumped in to trade up and snag him. This secrecy seems crucial for maintaining their competitive edge.
Interestingly, McVay’s demeanor during the post-draft press conference raised eyebrows; some interpreted his seriousness as dissatisfaction with their pick, but it may have masked his true feelings.
As the season approaches, Simpson will vie for the backup quarterback position behind Matthew Stafford. The Rams will be aiming for another Super Bowl run, adding yet another layer of excitement to the unfolding story.
