Being an NFL kicker isn’t for everyone.
The kicker for the Los Angeles Chargers, Cameron Dicker, recently expressed how tough his experience in the NFL has been, leaving well-known athletes Landon Donovan and Tim Howard a bit taken aback.
During a casual talk, Dicker mentioned to Howard that he only practices kicking three times a week, which prompted Howard to ask in shock, “What do you do the rest of the week?” Dicker, with a smile, joked that he spends his downtime playing FIFA and just hanging out.
Breaking down his weekly routine, Dicker explained he kicks on Sundays, does leg workouts on Mondays, and comes back on Tuesdays for practice. He commits about five hours to practice, incorporates upper body lifts, and reviews game films. At this point, Howard playfully interrupted him, quipping, “What are you looking at? Just snap the ball.”
Dicker chuckled at the remark and went on to describe his lighter kicking day on Thursdays. He kicks about 50 balls on Wednesdays, wraps things up with another leg lift on Friday, and then takes the weekend to recover ahead of the Chargers’ Sunday game.
Howard responded, with a hint of envy, “What have we been doing for 22 years?” Donovan chimed in, burying his face in his hands, lamenting, “We picked the wrong sport.”
Both Howard and Donovan are celebrated figures in U.S. soccer history, often referred to as “soccer royalty.” Donovan is set to be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2023, while Howard will follow in 2024.
Currently, Dicker boasts a 94% accuracy rate, making him one of the most precise kickers in the NFL. In 2024, he made history by scoring the most points in a single season for the Chargers, hitting the remarkable 150-point mark.
