Middle school students help bus driver who fainted due to asthma attack

Bus Driver’s Medical Emergency Averted by Quick-Thinking Students

A dramatic video captured from inside a school bus reveals a tense moment when several Mississippi middle school students were ejected from their seats as the bus driver, Leah Taylor, lost consciousness while driving on Wednesday.

The footage from the Hancock County School District shows Taylor collapsing due to an asthma attack. In a quick turn of events, a student seated at the front noticed the driver leaning over and promptly grabbed the steering wheel, just as Taylor regained consciousness.

As the situation escalated, a second fall led other students to rush to the front of the bus. Remarkably, one boy managed to hit the brakes while a girl administered Taylor’s medication and others called for help.

Melissa Saucier, the principal of Hancock Middle School, expressed her pride in the students’ calm and swift actions during the crisis. She stated that, although it could have been a dangerous situation, their handling of it was commendable.

The students involved—Mackenzie Finch, Jackson Casnave, Darius Clark, Kaylee Clark, and Destiny Cornelius—were later honored at a pep rally for their bravery. Taylor, grateful for their quick responses, shared that she is recovering and feels indebted to the students for “saving my life.”

At the moment, the Hancock County School District hasn’t provided further comments on the incident.
