Tyran Stokes Chooses Kansas for College Basketball
Tyran Stokes, the leading recruit for the 2026 class and a strong contender for the top pick in the 2027 NBA Draft, has announced his college choice for next season.
On Tuesday, during ESPN’s “NBA Tipoff,” Stokes shared his decision with a creative NBA 2K video game cover. He revealed that he will be playing for Kansas in the 2026-27 season.
“It’s been quite a journey, and I’m thankful for it. So, I’m taking my talents to the University of Kansas,” Stokes expressed before making the big reveal.
Stokes opted for Kansas over other notable programs like Kentucky and Oregon.
Head coach Bill Self has successfully secured the nation’s number one high school player for the second year in a row, having previously signed Darin Peterson.
Kansas is currently ranked second in the nation’s recruiting class, as noted by ESPN.
This marks a significant victory for Kansas, especially after failing to reach the Sweet 16 in the last four seasons.
Stokes’s commitment follows the recent additions of Leroy Bryden Jr., Keanu Dawes, and Christian Reeves through the transfer portal.
“Coach Bill Self is a fantastic coach and a great person,” Stokes remarked. “He’s been supportive from the start, offering invaluable advice throughout the process. I appreciate the university for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to making my mark at Allen Fieldhouse and putting on a great show soon.”
He first caught the eye of basketball enthusiasts during his participation in the USA Basketball and Nike EYBL circuits.
Stokes played his senior year at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, leading his team to a state championship.
Additonally, he has represented USA Basketball, winning gold medals at the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, and the 2025 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup.
