Key NBA free agency goals for the Heat following the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade

Miami Heat’s Offseason Activity Expected to Ramp Up

The Miami Heat are gearing up for a busy offseason.

They don’t really have a choice in the matter.

After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier this week, a move that’s been in the works for quite some time, they’re now focused on bringing in additional role players. The aim? To enhance their roster and bolster their chances for another championship run.

According to various reports, including insights from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat are exploring several options for guards and wings who are set to hit free agency starting June 30th.

Jackson noted that the Heat specifically want to sign at least two proficient 3-point shooters during free agency. He mentioned potential candidates like Anfernee Simons, who played this past season with the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls, Landry Shamet, a key contributor to the championship Knicks, Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Denver Nuggets, and Quentin Grimes, who is already an established player with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Heat are expected to target veteran shooters, aiming to form a formidable duo alongside Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, particularly on the defensive front.

Antetokounmpo, who is the last player to secure both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season, previously led the Milwaukee Bucks to their second NBA championship in 2020-21. He followed that impressive achievement with back-to-back MVP seasons.

On the other hand, Adebayo, a ten-time All-Star, has consistently been recognized on the All-Defensive team, missing out only once during his NBA career as a starter—earning accolades in six of the last seven seasons.

Adebayo is also a three-time All-Star, having contributed to Team USA’s gold medal success in the Summer Olympics in both 2021 and 2024.
