A man from Florida is facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a woman in the neck and dragging her into his home, as reported by authorities.
Officers from the Wildwood Police Department were called to the scene due to reports of gunshots following an altercation late Saturday night. When they arrived, they discovered a woman lying in the driveway, injured by a gunshot to her neck. She was in critical condition and had to be airlifted to a hospital.
Robert Anthony Morgan, 40, has been accused of this shooting and is charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, and discharging a weapon in a residential area.
Witnesses reported seeing Morgan crawling beneath a partially open garage door before jumping into a backyard pool. Police later retrieved him from the water and placed him under arrest.
The mother of the injured woman informed investigators that there had been previous domestic violence incidents involving Morgan and her daughter. She claimed to have witnessed him dragging the victim back toward the house after the shooting.
When Morgan was asked by police if he called for medical help, he reportedly said, “She’s fine,” and further threatened to shoot her if anyone contacted law enforcement.
Authorities discovered a rifle on the garage floor and blood stains along the street leading to the residence.
It was noted that the woman’s four children were present inside the home during this troubling situation.
Morgan, who has prior felony charges, appeared in court for the first time on Monday and is currently being held without bail.
