Top 10 Draft Winners Announced — One NFC Team Shocks at No. 1
As the Detroit Pistons face elimination, Nick Wright, Kevin Wilde, Danny Perkins, and Chris Broussard dive into what went wrong for the team and if there’s a chance to extend the series. Following that, Perkins shared his top ten draft winners, featuring a surprising NFC team in the top spot, which got everyone talking. The discussion then shifted to the Dallas Cowboys and George Pickens, with Greg Jennings and Perkins analyzing their ongoing drama. They also explored the dynamic between Ty Simpson and the Los Angeles Rams.
Last Friday, Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell welcomed first-round pick Caleb Banks, introducing not just him but also his family—his mother Mary, brothers Trayvon and Jaylen, and girlfriend Monique. O’Connell stressed the importance of support systems, saying it’s essential for families to feel part of the organization.
Interestingly, Banks has plans to bring quite the menagerie to Minnesota. He’s looking to move there with his two pythons, a Cane Corso, a chameleon, some birds, and possibly even tarantulas. The Vikings’ pep talk after drafting him was quite unique.
“Are you ready?” said Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores over the phone. “Let’s get a dog, a snake, a chameleon. Pack everyone up, let’s go.”
It seems Banks, dubbed “The Beast” by evaluators due to his extraordinary athleticism, felt a special connection with the Vikings, particularly because of their openness to his pets. At 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, with impressive physical stats like a 32-inch vertical leap, you’d think his football talents would be the primary focus, but his love for animals really stood out. When they met at the NFL Combine, his passion for pets caught their attention.
“That meant a lot to me,” Banks reflected on his talk with Flores. “It shows how deeply you care and actually listen. I was really excited to hear him say to bring my animals.”
Banks, who describes himself as a bit quirky, expressed, “I’m a goofy person. I love my animals, and I’m probably going to have more.” His personality shines through when he talks about his interests, which extend beyond football. He even humorously mentioned his skateboarding adventures and other unexpected hobbies that set him apart as a 330-pound athlete.
How did he develop such a fascination with exotic animals? Well, it started in his youth when someone jokingly mentioned koalas being cute. Banks found it intriguing and began researching animals, eventually nurturing a lifelong obsession.
Initially contemplating a zoology major in college, he eventually decided football was the more pressing priority. Balancing his practice schedule with visits to the zoo proved too challenging.
Talking about his future pet plans, Banks smiled and said, “I definitely want more snakes, maybe a frog, or another dog. I’m not sure, but who knows? I might surprise myself and even bring a frog to the facility, Coach.”
Talk about giving the Vikings a true test of their acceptance for his pets!
