Passenger’s Outburst Leads to Emergency Door Opening

A frustrated passenger raised tensions on a recent Delta flight when he was filmed yanking open the emergency door, only adding to the delays the flight was already experiencing.

In a video shared on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout, a man with a gray goatee and a hat can be seen shouting as he insisted on being let off a Delta flight headed to Chicago. The flight had been grounded in Atlanta due to severe thunderstorms, causing significant delays.

“How late are we? It’s been three or four hours, and we’re looking at another hour?” he yelled angrily into the plane’s phone.

Desperate to get off, he commanded, “Please take me to the gate. I want to get off or I’ll get off myself,” as he fiddled with the emergency door.

After he opened the door, a woman exclaimed, “Oh my god!” in shock.

When others attempted to intervene, he dismissively asked who they were and responded, “It doesn’t matter… you know who matters? Me.”

“I called you an idiot,” he continued, noticeably rude.

As events unfolded, the captain addressed the situation over the intercom, stating, “Sir, this is the captain. We’re heading back to the gate.”

Delta Air Lines later confirmed that flights had been stalled on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to a grounding at Chicago’s O’Hare airport, all caused by the severe weather.

The airline noted that while the door was partially opened, the slide did not deploy. An unruly passenger prompted security to remove him and the crew took the plane, which had 168 passengers aboard, back to the gate.

After more than five hours of waiting, the flight finally departed at 12:44 a.m., arriving in Chicago around 3 a.m. local time.

“The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior,” a spokesperson stated. They also extended apologies to the impacted passengers for the delays.

The FAA is currently looking into the incident.
