Tragic Death of Cooking Teacher Allegedly at Hands of Ex-Husband

A cherished cooking teacher has reportedly been murdered by her ex-husband in a moment of rage, with her daughter witnessing the horrifying event, according to court documents.

Monica Morris, 51, was discovered deceased around 3 a.m. Tuesday near her family’s burning townhouse in the 100 block of Freedom Way, Arial, New Jersey. The Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the scene.

Upon entering the flames of the house, officers found her husband, Jerome, 50, bloodied and clutching a knife.

Monica’s body was situated next to him, face down in a third-floor bedroom engulfed in fire. Authorities revealed she had sustained multiple lethal stab wounds to her throat and neck.

It appears two other adults managed to escape the home without injury. Jerome, meanwhile, was treated for unspecified injuries at a hospital before being taken into custody, police stated.

Jerome has a documented history of stalking and intimidation. Reports indicate he may have lost control after Monica indicated her desire to end their marriage.

In the moments leading up to the tragedy, Monica’s daughter dialed 911 around 2:25 a.m., alleging she heard Jerome attacking her mother.

She recounted hearing screams from the third floor, where her parents’ bedroom was located. When she ventured upstairs, she heard her mother yell that Jerome was trying to kill her, as detailed in the court documents.

While on the phone with emergency services, she located a key to her parents’ bedroom door. Upon entering, she saw Jerome standing over Monica, who was bloodied and appeared to be holding a knife.

Monica was a well-liked cooking instructor at Trenton Central High School and a mother to four children, as noted in a GoFundMe set up by her son-in-law.

She was pronounced dead merely 30 minutes after her daughter made the 911 call.

Her family described her as a compassionate and generous individual, someone who inspired others and brought warmth to their lives.

Trenton City Councilwoman Crystal Feliciano shared a heartfelt tribute to Monica, affectionately calling her “Nana.”

“I miss calling your name in the morning and your amazing desserts. I miss our little chats,” Feliciano expressed. “Our school community will never be the same without your presence. Thank you for the love you shared with everyone.”

Jerome has been charged with first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. Furthermore, police indicated that the findings of an ongoing fire investigation might result in additional charges against him.

A fundraiser supporting Monica’s four children was reported to be just $5,000 shy of its $13,000 target as of Wednesday evening.
