New revelations about the horrific acts of serial killer Lex Heuerman in his basement, dubbed the “murder chamber,” proved to be too distressing for a relative of one of his victims.
“I can’t!” a woman shouted in the Riverhead courtroom as Heuerman was sentenced to life imprisonment, just as Suffolk County Attorney Ray Tierney began outlining the details of Heuerman’s horrific deeds.
“When he discusses what he needed to dispose of, he refers to ‘props, toys, wooden items,'” Tierney explained to Judge Timothy Mazzei. “He kept wooden items crafted with his family, using them during the murders only to then destroy them afterward.”
The prosecutor noted, “He’s treating this like it’s a sport. Talking about life as if it were a game.”
Heuerman received three life sentences in April after pleading guilty to strangling and dismembering eight sex workers, committing his crimes in a “kill room” in the basement of his family’s Massapequa Park home.
This prominent architect was responsible for the murders of women between 1993 and 2010, with his crimes remaining a mystery until his arrest outside his Manhattan office in 2023.
Suffolk County prosecutors revealed that Heuerman had stored detailed “planning documents” on his computer, filled with gruesome notes about how to “hunt,” torture, and kill his victims.
The victims, all young, petite sex workers, were discovered in remote spots around Gilgo Beach and Manorville during 2010 and 2011.
