Investigation launched into possible inside job in burglary of NASCAR driver Greg Biffle's North Carolina home

The recent burglary at the North Carolina home of late NASCAR driver Greg Biffle is being investigated as a potential inside job, particularly following unsettling events that occurred soon after he and his family perished in a plane crash.

Biffle, aged 55, tragically lost his life along with his wife Christina and their two children, Emma, 14, and Ryder, 5, when their private plane went down close to Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina on December 18.

A new search warrant, obtained by local authorities, marks a significant development in the case. The Biffle family believes a woman they know had a role in the burglary, which is linked to previous suspicious activities.

The break-in at Biffle’s home in Mooresville occurred between the night of January 7 and the early hours of January 8, weeks after the family’s deaths.

Detectives reported that the intruders entered through a bedroom door, accessed a safe, and stole approximately $30,000 in cash, firearms, NASCAR memorabilia, and a backpack.

Surveillance footage captured a hooded figure outside and a woman inside the house navigating key parts of the property around 11 p.m., according to police.

Investigators noted that the suspect seemed to understand the home’s layout and the location of the security cameras, suggesting someone with prior knowledge.

This familiarity is a key reason why authorities suspect the burglary may be connected to earlier questionable activities in the investigation.

Several individuals close to the Biffle family have been mentioned in related affidavits, although none have been publicly named or charged at this point.

As the family marked a significant occasion on January 16, detectives identified a woman similar to the suspect seen on camera, who was reported as a family friend.

License plate reader data indicated a vehicle linked to her was near her home shortly before the burglary occurred.

After the robbery footage went public, this woman abruptly canceled plans with friends and traveled to Pennsylvania, investigators indicated.

Right after the tragic incident, the family’s email and bank accounts came under attack, according to WBTV.

An email sent to Biffle’s account shortly after 2 a.m. on December 19 included a disturbing message, “I hear you’re dead. May you rest in hell.”

Detectives reported that email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords were altered as the bank accounts were compromised.

Allegedly, “hundreds of thousands of dollars” were taken in a wave of fraudulent transactions in the ensuing days and weeks.

Documents detailed attempts to access accounts from various states, including changes made by phone and at least one fraudulent check linked to Biffle’s business that was cashed on December 30.

On April 23, search warrants were executed at a residence in Lincoln County and a business in Mooresville.

No stolen items were found, but several electronic devices were taken from the home, while nothing was retrieved from the business.

Authorities shared that the investigation now spans multiple states and involves an array of potential suspects.

While an Iredell County detective stated they couldn’t rule out any connections, they stressed that it remains an ongoing investigation.

Investigators have also not dismissed the idea that this break-in might be linked to an overarching financial scheme.

Biffle was a celebrated figure in NASCAR, racking up over 50 wins across three national series, with 19 victories in the Cup Series along with wins in the Truck and Xfinity divisions.

The investigation into the cause of the December 18 crash is still underway, with reports indicating the plane attempted to return to the airport shortly after takeoff before experiencing erratic speed and altitude changes.
