Hugh Hewitt: Trump opted for determination instead of backing down. The GOP must present that argument daily.

Trump directs Cabinet members to support midterm campaigns, instructing them to downplay or avoid contentious positions.

Recent forecasts for the upcoming U.S. midterm elections are particularly concerning for the Republican Party, which may face significant losses in the House of Representatives and could risk diminishing their hold on the Senate. Generally, the party of a sitting president, especially midway through their second term, tends to suffer during elections.

However, if President Trump manages to steer his party through this, it’s essential that today’s Republicans take a firm stance. They should openly affirm the necessity of confronting Iran, akin to Ulysses S. Grant’s wartime declarations. Without this clarity, the party risks experiencing a jarring setback, similar to the Republican losses seen in 2006. Grant’s army won later on, yet it was an uphill battle filled with challenges.

Though there may not be a literal “Appomattox” moment in the fight against Iran, Republican leaders need to assert the inevitability of victory and the importance of this struggle.

All candidates, regardless of party affiliation, need to convey a straightforward message: Iran’s regime is dangerous and irrational. This has been acknowledged by leaders like Secretary Rubio. The Iranian government has consistently oppressed its own people, often committing acts of violence against them. It’s a regime that has historically threatened multiple countries and, essentially, must be addressed decisively by the U.S. and its allies.

Republicans should adopt a “Peace Through Victory” approach, consistently advocating for it in conversations and interviews. This isn’t about a misguided choice to engage in war; it’s about taking necessary steps in light of a significant threat.

The blockade imposed by the U.S. Navy could cripple the Iranian regime, but such a process demands patience. Recently, it was reported that President Trump is committed to resolving these issues, showing determination that is commendable.

Americans have perhaps lost the drive for victory, but once this conflict is resolved, that resolve can be restored. For Republicans, the potential for electoral losses could mean tough battles in various states, particularly in Maine, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, and Alaska. If they choose to steadfastly focus on their stance against Iran while clearly articulating their reasons, voters may support them.

Candidates must effectively communicate that the fight against Iran is not only necessary but long overdue, highlighting the high cost it has extracted in terms of lives lost and those injured. However, they should emphasize the success achieved in this context and the administration’s commitment to eradicating the remnants of the oppressive regime. It appears President Trump is resolved not to falter in this regard.

It’s vital that Republicans continue to support him, reinforcing that while gas prices may rise, these costs are minor compared to those borne by families of the fallen. Notably, the potential benefits for the Iranian people must be underscored.

As the battle to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions continues and seems to be progressing favorably, the results may not be recognized by some opposition forces. The Iranian military has been significantly weakened, and the blockade is adversely impacting their economy. With time, the U.S. stands poised for a victory, though some, particularly those in the Democratic sphere, may refuse to acknowledge it.

Certainly, Israel and other allies in the region would welcome an Iranian capitulation, thereby enhancing the area’s stability. Yet, there’s a tendency among critics to dismiss the American military campaign’s effectiveness and the potential gains derived from diminishing Iran’s aggressive regime.

Ultimately, the emphasis on a commitment to victory must resonate, as echoed by historical perspectives, and Republicans should firmly establish their stance of “peace through victory.” While gas prices may present challenges, the bigger picture calls for urgency and resolve in advocating for a free Iran and a secure Middle East.

Victory in this ongoing conflict is not just necessary; it’s essential for future Republican successes. Above all, it’s crucial to counter the narratives from prior administrations that may have inadvertently enabled Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Republicans must refuse to settle for anything less than clear, decisive action as exemplified by President Trump’s refusal to delay addressing the imminent threats posed by Iran.

In light of these pressing matters, it’s more important than ever for the party to unify behind their strategic objectives, constantly reaffirming their commitment to facing these challenges head-on.
