AEW Dynamite recap: Kevin Knight secures opportunity to aim for dual championship

AEW Dynamite recap: Kevin Knight secures opportunity to aim for dual championship

Kevin Knight Climbs the AEW Ranks

Kevin Knight is making notable strides in All Elite Wrestling after defeating Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) on “Dynamite,” which secures him a shot at the AEW World Championship.

In a rematch for the TNT Championship, Knight faced off against MJF, who was still reeling from his recent loss to Darby Allin for the AEW World title. MJF was relentless; he took Knight down forcefully over the barrier and unleashed a series of punishing moves, including a cutter and a Panama sunrise. Despite the onslaught, Knight managed to withstand MJF’s best shots. When MJF attempted to use the Dynamite Diamond Ring, Knight responded with a low blow, which turned the tide.

Ultimately, Knight executed a roll-up on MJF for the pinfall victory.

Allin to the Rescue

Post-match, MJF couldn’t contain his frustration and attacked Knight, but Darby Allin intervened and delivered a Scorpion Death Drop to MJF. Allin then declared that Knight would have a chance at the AEW World Championship later that evening if he could defeat Brody King. Dr. King indicated that Knight was his first choice if he triumphed.

The match began with Knight taking an aggressive approach, hitting King with a cannonball. However, an attempted suicide dive left him bouncing off King without much effect.

As they battled outside the ring, King thought he’d gained the upper hand. Yet, Knight proved to be unpredictable. After setting King on a chair, Knight launched off the top rope, delivering a dropkick that, though impactful, left both competitors in pain.

King then took control, using his size to systematically wear down Allin with heavy chops. Just when it looked like King was about to finish Allin off, Knight jumped onto King’s back, but King retaliated by slamming Allin onto the “AEW Dynamite” announce table.

Despite the referee’s pleas for them to return to the ring, the two superstars continued battling atop the announce table. Allin managed to pull off a spectacular code red, but it was still not enough to pin King.

In the closing moments, King dropped Allin and prepared for more offense. But Allin, showing resilience, eventually powered King onto the concrete and scored multiple coffin drops, retaining the AEW World Championship.

Coop and Cage Accept FTR’s Challenge

In other news, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, known as FTR, raised the stakes for their upcoming New York street fight set for next month’s Double or Nothing. They challenged Adam Copeland and Christian Cage to an “I Quit” match.

During a Wednesday night broadcast, Copeland and Cage confirmed their acceptance of the challenge. Cage voiced that the history of “I Quit” matches prompted their swift agreement, referencing a previous match where he lost to Copeland.

“I’ve repeatedly said, I’m not quitting,” Cage insisted, emphasizing his resolve.

More Notes from Dynamite

Recently, Ring of Honor world champion Bandido has been making brief appearances on AEW programming, causing quite a stir. This week, things took a twist with Swerve Strickland seems to be tracking Bandido, marking his return after a previous loss to Kenny Omega.

Will Ospreay showed up at the Death Riders’ practice to regroup from a neck injury. Jon Moxley welcomed him but humorously advised him to leave his baggage at the door. Their interaction seems to be another layer in their ongoing narrative.

Meanwhile, Samoa Joe made an appearance backstage, attempting to remind Ospreay of his roots and offered help if needed.
