Seattle Storm player Lexi Brown has publicly refuted claims that she had an affair with NBA star Klay Thompson during her breakup with rapper Megan Thee Stallion. The rumors, which have reportedly led to death threats against her, prompted Brown to call out Thompson and Megan for not addressing the allegations directly.
“It wouldn’t have bothered me if either of them had said something; I mean, they are the ones in the relationship and should be the ones making it clear,” Brown explained in a recent interview. She expressed disappointment that the truth hasn’t been voiced from their side, stating, “It was really unfortunate to be dragged through the mud like that.”
Brown, a champion with the Chicago Sky in 2021, commented on her past with Thompson, indicating they know each other through basketball, but she wouldn’t describe him as a friend. She admitted she thought either he or Megan would deny the rumors, especially since the WNBA preseason was happening at the time. But nothing came.
“I had a game to focus on. I knew the rumors were completely false, but I thought surely someone would step in to say, ‘This isn’t true.’ Yet, that never happened,” she added. “The fact that I’m the only one denying the accusations is something I’m struggling to deal with, especially when there’s been so much talk about protecting Black women, and I’m not part of that conversation.”
Brown described the situation as escalating to a point where she felt unsafe. “I received threats against my life and my family’s safety,” she mentioned. “We had to hire security just to feel safe.” Her father, former NBA player Dee Brown, expressed his devastation over the whole ordeal, highlighting the toll it has taken on his daughter.
He stated, “Watching my daughter live in fear and deal with these hateful attacks is terrifying… This isn’t just a public figure issue; this could happen to anyone’s child.” To mitigate the stress from social media scrutiny, Lexi decided to turn off comments and eventually deleted social media apps entirely.
The stress affected her health severely. Brown has been battling Crohn’s disease, which flared up during this period. After experiencing significant weight loss and undergoing surgery, she emphasized the importance of a supportive environment in Seattle, where she currently plays.
Even with newfound support, Brown finds the ongoing rumors unsettling. “I’m grateful to have a good plan in place now, but the anxiety from all this hasn’t made it any easier,” she concluded.
