Trump Criticizes Sen. Cassidy Over Surgeon General Nomination
President Trump recently took aim at Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, accusing him of “very dishonest” behavior and engaging in “political gamesmanship” regarding Cassidy’s reluctance to support Trump’s nominee for second surgeon general. This nominee is Casey Means, who Trump highlighted as a strong advocate for health issues.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged Louisianans to oust Cassidy from office. He described Cassidy as deeply dishonest and mentioned the senator’s past support for impeachment, which now appears to be based on, in Trump’s view, unfounded claims. According to Trump, Cassidy has hindered the nomination of Means, a “MAHA warrior,” who fights for health initiatives in the country.
In an additional statement, Curry Means, Casey’s brother and a White House adviser, pointed fingers at Cassidy for the unsuccessful nomination process. He criticized Cassidy for being more aligned with donors than the needs of the people, asserting that Cassidy worked proactively to obstruct Casey’s confirmation. He emphasized the timing of the hearings, pointing out that Casey gave birth just when the first session was set to occur, a situation Cassidy could have anticipated.
Trump also announced the nomination of Nicole Safier, a former Fox News contributor, suggesting she has a strong record in women’s health. He again encouraged voters to think critically about Cassidy’s future amid primary challenges from John Fleming and Julia Letlow.
Means has previously appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee led by Cassidy, where concerns about her vaccination views were expressed.
As the political scene unfolds, the dynamics between Trump, Cassidy, and the health nomination process continue to create tension. Whether these criticisms will sway public opinion in Louisiana remains to be seen.
