Democrat claims 'white nationalists' are joining immigration enforcement to target individuals: 'Always about race'

Controversy Surrounds Democratic Candidate Bobby Pulido

A contentious Democratic candidate in South Texas is facing backlash after making claims that Border Patrol agents are racists. Bobby Pulido, a former Latin music star vying to unseat Republican Congresswoman Monica de la Cruz, has declared that “the fight will always be about race” during a recent podcast interview.

In this discussion, Pulido accused the Trump administration and the Republican Party of enforcing immigration policies based on a “white replacement theory.” He stated, “When President Trump ran, he deliberately targeted what he called the bad guys. They lied to us.” He lamented, “It’s race. It’s always been about race. I hate to say that, and I wish it weren’t true. But I need to express this because it’s reality.” He added that too many people of color are concerned about poverty under current conditions.

Pulido has emphasized, “I don’t want to demonize law enforcement.” However, he expressed that there are, indeed, some individuals within immigration enforcement with problematic views, mentioning, “It’s not everyone, but there are a lot of white supremacists involved.” He remarked on the complications this could create for the reputation of all law enforcement personnel.

A spokesperson for De la Cruz’s campaign responded, accusing Pulido of disrespecting Border Patrol agents, over half of whom identify as Hispanic. They emphasized that these are the same agents that the congresswoman interacts with regularly, celebrating community events and attending school functions.

In turn, a representative from Pulido’s campaign dismissed the claims, suggesting that De la Cruz’s team is panicking now that Pulido is gaining momentum. They pointed out that he has familial ties to the Border Patrol and has historically supported law enforcement.

Pulido’s campaign has been marred by controversies, including resurfaced music videos and connections to a bandmate with a troubled past. He has denied knowing about the criminal history of this bandmate, saying he cut ties upon learning of it. Additionally, there’s criticism regarding another musician, Julion Alvarez, who has ties to a cartel and was sanctioned by the U.S.

A spokesperson for Pulido argued that misunderstandings stem from cultural differences, explaining that the term “amigo” doesn’t necessarily denote personal friendship. On the other hand, a Republican National Committee spokesperson asserted that Pulido has consistently sided with criminals and neglected law enforcement, prompting concerns about his fitness for Congress.

Amid these exchanges, Paul Perez, president of the National Border Patrol Council, condemned Pulido’s actions, labeling them a disgrace to Border Patrol agents. He noted that most of the agents patrolling the border are Hispanic and would clearly see where Pulido stands on various issues.
