Kathy Griffin Supports Jimmy Kimmel Amid Trump Controversy

Comedian Kathy Griffin recently backed late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following President Trump’s demand for Kimmel’s dismissal.

In a television interview, Griffin shared her views on the situation. Kimmel discussed a painful memory from his past when, after posing with a replica of Trump’s severed head, he felt his career crumble. “Honestly, it still stings. It’s been nine years, and it still hurts that no one stood up for my First Amendment rights. The DOJ targeted me, not a private entity. Now that’s what’s happening to Jimmy,” Kimmel reflected.

On Monday, both the president and first lady called for Kimmel’s firing over remarks he made about Trump’s death and referring to Melania Trump as a “widow” during a spoof at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Trump expressed his opinions on Truth Social, stating, “Kimmel, who, frankly, isn’t funny—just look at his poor ratings—made some alarming statements. He aired a fake video suggesting that Melania and Barron were in his studio, but they weren’t at all. He even claimed, ‘Look, Melania, you’re beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you’re pregnant.’ The next day, someone attempted to breach the event with a shotgun and knives. I appreciate the outrage over Kimmel’s violent rhetoric.”

Kimmel later defended himself, suggesting his comments were intended as a “light joke.” He explained, “It was just a humorous take on the age difference between them. It certainly wasn’t an assassination call. I’ve openly opposed gun violence for years, but I understand Melania might be under considerable stress. We all should reject hateful rhetoric. And I think discussing such issues with family is the best approach.”
