Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey detained for having alcohol and a fake identification.

Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsay was taken into custody early Friday morning in Arkansas. Police indicated that he was found with a fake ID and was underage.

A preliminary report from Fayetteville police mentioned that staff at YeeHawg, a bar in Fayetteville, flagged a potential fraudulent ID a bit after midnight. When officers arrived, they were directed to Lindsey, who is 20, and he admitted to consuming alcohol and using a fake ID prior to visiting the bar.

Lindsey, a local from Fayetteville, was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where authorities discovered the fake ID in his wallet.

The quarterback was released after about seven hours, having posted a $470 bail, as noted in the records from the detention center.

He also faced minor charges related to underage alcohol possession and attempted fraud concerning identification, according to reports.

A spokesperson from Minnesota State mentioned, “We are aware of the situation and will address it internally.”

Lindsey’s court hearings are set for June 1 and June 29 in Fayetteville District Court.

Coming off a strong freshman year with the Golden Gophers—where he threw for 2,382 yards, 18 touchdowns, and completed 249 of 386 passes—expectations are high for him next season.

He notably led the team to eight wins, breaking the record for most victories by a rookie quarterback at the school.

Despite the recent trouble, Lindsey is projected to be a strong candidate for the 2027 NFL Draft, as noted by Nate Theis, son of former NFL head coach Mike Theis, who has him ranked at No. 24 on the big board.

As described, “Lindsey is the classic quarterback prototype of a skilled pocket passer in the vein of Drew Bledsoe.” He stands at 6-5 and weighs 230 pounds, and his ability to manage a challenging offensive line will be something to watch.
