Threat Against Dutch Princesses Discovered
Princess Katharina Amalia and her sister were reportedly the targets of a dangerous plot by suspected far-right extremists, aiming to harm the future Queen of the Netherlands. Fortunately, authorities managed to intercept the attack before it could unfold.
A 33-year-old man is set to appear in court next week, facing allegations of conspiring to harm the 22-year-old Amalia and her 20-year-old sister Alexia. This incident took place in February, according to various reports.
Amalia is the daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, making her the heir to the Dutch throne, while Alexia holds the position of second in line.
Law enforcement officials apprehended the suspect in The Hague, where they found him with two axes. These axes bore inscriptions linked to Israeli intelligence, as well as the infamous Nazi chant “Sieg Heil.” To add to the disturbing find, a handwritten note was also recovered, featuring the words “Amalia,” “Alexia,” and “Bloody.”
While the Public Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague withheld the suspect’s name, citing privacy laws, the exact motives behind the sinister plans remain undisclosed.
The Dutch royal family, known as the House of Orange-Nassau, has historically been Protestant and is not affiliated with the Jewish community.
A preliminary hearing for the suspect is scheduled for Monday.
The revelations about this arrest coincided with a public appearance of the royal family during King’s Day celebrations in Dokkum on April 27, which included both Amalia and Alexia.
Interestingly, Amalia has been the target of alarming plots in the past. There was even an alleged conspiracy involving a gang that aimed to kidnap her along with then-Prime Minister Mark Rutte. In 2022, authorities intercepted troubling messages exchanged among gang members threatening high-profile figures, including Amalia.
Due to growing concerns about her safety, Queen Máxima made the decision to pull Amalia from her university dormitory shortly after she enrolled, moving her back to the royal palace for her protection.
At that time, the 18-year-old Amalia was just starting her studies in politics and economics at the University of Amsterdam. Living with other students made her feel like she was getting a taste of a more typical college experience, even if it was short-lived.
However, threats significantly changed her life. Queen Máxima commented, “It will have a huge impact on her life,” explaining that it meant Amalia wouldn’t live in Amsterdam and would have limited freedom to go out.
Authorities believe the communications that raised alarms were linked to a Moroccan criminal group known as Marco Mafia.
In the year prior to the kidnapping plot, Amalia had been working to create a more relatable life for herself. She applied for a government stipend but was denied, which she found quite frustrating. In 2021, she expressed her feelings to Rutte, saying it felt offensive that she wasn’t contributing much while other students faced bigger challenges.
Additionally, when she was just 16, Amalia received a threatening message on Instagram directed towards a friend. The perpetrator later faced conviction for intimidation, but the incident highlighted the risks surrounding her public life.
In summary, the recent events underline ongoing concerns for the safety of Princess Amalia, revealing that threats have been a troubling part of her young royal life.
