North Carolina Representative Chuck Edwards Undergoing Ethics Investigation

Recently, Congress has encountered some challenging times, but the House Ethics Committee has initiated a separate investigation regarding sexual harassment claims made against Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-North Carolina), following reports from anonymous sources.

According to CNN, witnesses reached out to the commission alleging they observed “inappropriate conduct.” However, the network was unclear about the specifics of this conduct, or whether any allegations had been substantiated by the commission.

This inquiry emerges in light of a previous scandal involving former Northern California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, who left his House seat and withdrew from his gubernatorial race after facing rape and sexual misconduct accusations. The committee also looked into ethics complaints against Tony Gonzalez (R-Texas) and Sheila Cherfils McCormick (D-Fla.), but all three representatives resigned prior to the conclusion of the investigations, according to Axios.

Gonzalez’s situation concerns a sexual relationship with a female staff member who tragically took her own life in 2025, while McCormick faced inquiries for misusing coronavirus relief funds and campaign financing issues.

When approached for comments on the ongoing investigation, Edwards responded by saying:

Considering the professionalism displayed by my staff and my dedication to serving the constituents of Western North Carolina, I’m open to any investigation. In this current political climate, it’s not surprising that individuals with their own agendas might attempt to fabricate stories.

Edwards had a strong primary win, securing 70% of the votes, and is set to compete against Democrat Jamie Agar in the upcoming election. He has presented himself as a “fourth generation farmer” and “entrepreneur.”

Reportedly, the House Ethics Committee is actively working to address inappropriate behavior among lawmakers and is encouraging anyone aware of such misconduct to speak up.

Axios was the first to announce the investigation into Edwards’ alleged actions, noting that these types of inquiries can take weeks or even years to complete, and their findings might not always be revealed publicly.

CNN stated that the House Ethics Committee has not commented on this particular matter involving Edwards.
