Raptors’ RJ Barrett Delivers Season-Saving Shot
In a dramatic playoff moment, Toronto Raptors star RJ Barrett hit a crucial basket that kept the team’s season alive. The Raptors, facing a 3-2 series deficit against the Cleveland Cavaliers, found themselves trailing 110-109 with just 10.9 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, during their matchup at Scotiabank Arena on Friday night.
Desperate for a score, Barrett threw the ball to Scottie Barnes. After a short dribble towards the free-throw line, Barnes passed it back to Barrett, who was positioned at the top of the key.
Barrett then launched a three-pointer that was critical—if the Raptors were to force a Game 7. Yet, the shot didn’t go as planned at first; it hit the rim and rebounded awkwardly, soaring about seven feet back before eventually dropping through the net. This unexpected turn gave the Raptors a 112-110 lead with only 1.2 seconds left on the clock. Although the Cavaliers had a chance to respond with Evan Mobley’s three-point shot, it fell short just as the final buzzer sounded.
Raptors coach Darko Rajkovic noted that Barrett’s shot felt like it lingered in the air for an eternity, despite being just half a second. “I was thrilled for him, for our team, and for the city,” he said, reflecting on the intensity of the moment.
Barrett himself felt a sense of hope about his shot’s trajectory. “I thought it still had a chance,” he admitted, highlighting the importance of aiming straight up.
On the other side, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson had a succinct, perhaps slightly bitter, response. “Sometimes the basketball gods just aren’t with you,” he remarked, alluding to the unpredictability of the game.
The Cavaliers are now focused on their upcoming Game 7 at home. “This isn’t going to be easy,” Atkinson said, emphasizing the need to reclaim home-court advantage. “We have to regroup and get ready for Sunday.”
For fans of the Raptors, Barrett’s clutch moment was reminiscent of other dramatic playoff victories. Many are hoping for another special memory as the team prepares to face the Cavaliers again at 7:30 p.m. ET.
