Teens Storm Church of Scientology in NYC

A group of unruly teenagers reportedly surged into the Church of Scientology in New York City on Saturday afternoon, causing damage to the property and injuring a security guard, as indicated by police and other sources. This incident aligns with a broader trend observed on social media across the nation.

Around 4:24 p.m., approximately 50 unruly youths pushed through a locked side entrance at the church, located near Times Square on West 46th Street. While parishioners and visitors were engaged in a seminar, the group caused significant disturbances.

A 30-year-old man, identified as a security guard, sustained minor injuries after being kicked in the leg. Reports also mention that the group hurled racial slurs at another church staff member.

The Church of Scientology International, based in Los Angeles, labeled the episode as a “coordinated” trespass intended for social media clout.

In a statement to the press, the church described how a group unlawfully entered by breaking down a locked door. They expressed concerns that this disruption placed staff and visitors at risk, asserting it was not a peaceful visit or lawful protest but rather a deliberate act of forced entry and property damage.

After the chaos, the individuals involved fled in various directions, and as of now, no arrests have been made while the investigation continues.

This incident adds to a peculiar trend observed on TikTok, known as “Scientology Speedrunning.” Since early April, individuals have been recording themselves storming properties linked to the Church of Scientology, which has raised alarm bells regarding safety.

The church, which promotes the idea of humans as immortal spiritual beings, has become a prime target due to this reckless social media phenomenon.

The Church of Scientology, founded in the 1950s by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, centers around beliefs and rituals aimed at spiritual growth, with his book *Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health* as a cornerstone.

Notably, Hollywood has amplified the church’s visibility through prominent members like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, who have been among its most notable supporters.

Other well-known figures associated with the church include Elisabeth Moss, Katherine Bell, Jenna Elfman, and Nancy Cartwright, recognized for voicing Bart Simpson on *The Simpsons*.

The church is currently cooperating with the New York Police Department, which continues to probe Saturday’s events.

In their statement, church representatives stressed that their facilities are meant to be welcoming spaces. They condemned the trending stunt, clarifying that such actions constitute trespassing and harassment, not civic responsibility. They emphasized that while churches welcome lawful visitors, they do not tolerate those who forcibly enter or damage property for online attention.
