Memphis Man Charged After Allegedly Biting Infant
A man from Memphis is facing charges after allegedly biting an infant on the face during a chaotic incident. This occurred in early May, with the police detailing events that led up to the arrest of 34-year-old Jerry L. Stark.
According to police reports, Stark was charged with domestic assault following a series of bizarre events that culminated at a restaurant on North Hollywood Street. Officers were called just before 1 a.m. and found Stark in distress inside the establishment, holding a child.
Witnesses reported that Stark was running with the infant, insisting that the child’s family was attempting to harm them. Before the situation escalated, Stark was seen acting erratically around several nearby gas stations.
Inside the restaurant, things became intense. Stark was found on the kitchen floor, calling for help and seemingly losing touch with reality. As he held the child, witnesses noticed the toddler showing signs of distress and called the police, explaining that the child was beginning to turn blue.
When questioned, Stark allegedly claimed, “My family is trying to kill me,” demonstrating a disoriented state of mind.
Some witnesses witnessed Stark biting the toddler’s right cheek during the ordeal. Thankfully, bystanders were able to take action and help the child escape before police arrived, leading Stark to become increasingly frantic.
A video shared online by a witness captured the chaotic moment, showing people struggling to prevent Stark from leaving the restaurant. The individuals in the video voiced their frustration toward Stark, warning him against fleeing.
One viewer of the video expressed concern, stating they were heartbroken over seeing the child’s distressed face, sharing the emotional toll it took on them.
The injured infant was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the injuries were not classified as severe, although the child’s mother mentioned that Stark had earlier thrown the infant from a moving vehicle that night, which the police didn’t find any evidence of injuries from.
Stark was arrested at the scene and is currently being held without bail, pending further evaluation. He is expected to appear in court soon, as this unsettling incident remains under investigation.
