Anne Heche not only addressed rumors but took decisive action following a confrontation with Fran Weinstein, a former producer for “Entertainment Tonight.” The incident emerged from Weinstein’s new memoir, “Tortured Soles,” which recounts encounters in Hollywood.
In the late 1990s, during an interview for the “Psycho” remake, Weinstein claimed he inadvertently stumbled into a tense moment when he asked Heche about her co-star Vince Vaughn. At that time, she was rumored to be dating Ellen DeGeneres. Weinstein recounted that Heche became visibly upset when he mentioned rumors of a relationship between her and Vaughn, insisting, “I don’t want to talk about this. I don’t want anyone to know about this.” It was clear she wanted to keep her new romance with DeGeneres private.
Weinstein described that despite her reservations, they proceeded to chat about holiday plans. Just as the interview seemed to wrap up, Heche requested him not to mention Vaughn again, to which he agreed. After parting ways, things took a turn when Weinstein was pressured by Heche’s publicist to return the tape of the interview, claiming it could prevent future access to Heche.
As the situation escalated, Weinstein refused, highlighting that giving in would set a troubling precedent. He later described a confrontation with Heche in the hotel elevator, where she accused him of disrespect. In a chaotic moment, Heche and her publicist reportedly had a fierce shouting match, countered by Weinstein’s frustration and an inclination to involve the police.
The tension continued as Weinstein opened the door to a heated scene—Heche chain-smoking while expressing her anger over the situation. Eventually, he decided to take a break and lie down because he felt overwhelmed, only for chaos to ensue as Heche stormed out with allegations of disrespect hanging in the air.
Years later, Weinstein claimed to have learned that Heche had potentially disposed of the tapes in a rather theatrical manner. However, Heche’s manager dismissed this account as inaccurate, stating that stories should focus on honoring her memory, especially now. Heche, who tragically died in a car crash in 2022, was the subject of much media attention, and Weinstein’s experiences serve as a reminder of the complexities behind the glamorous facade of Hollywood.
