NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani taunts Trae Young after earlier disagreement about Knicks playoff ticket costs

Jay Wright praises ‘Nova Knicks’ mental strength and parental support

Former Villanova basketball coach Jay Wright has spoken about the outstanding qualities of his former players, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges. He pointed out that their competitiveness and intelligence—combined with strong parental support—played a significant role in their victory with the New York Knicks in the NBA Championship. This trio made history by securing both NCAA and NBA titles together.

The New York Knicks are set to host their first celebratory parade in over 50 years after beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games to claim their first NBA title since 1973.

In recent seasons, Trae Young has had quite the impact on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, turning pivotal shots into infamous chants from the crowd. It’s become a sort of tradition whenever the Knicks face the Atlanta Hawks, almost like Young thrives on the rivalry. After being traded to the Washington Wizards in January, he still engages with New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani on social media, adding fuel to the competitive fire.

The conversation around Knicks playoff ticket prices has also escalated, leading to some back-and-forth between NBA stars and politicians. It seems like the mayor, in a chat with CNN, suggested he was unfamiliar with Young when asked if Victor Wembanyama had taken over as the new basketball villain in town. Mamdani’s response came off a bit sharp, noting he only recognized Wembanyama as the latest antagonist.

Young had quite the reputation during the 2021 Eastern Conference Playoffs when he averaged 29.2 points against the Knicks, famously silencing the Madison Square Garden crowd after delivering a game-high 32 points in Game 1. One particularly heated moment even saw an irate Knicks fan attempt to spit on him, a gesture that Young shrugged off, commenting that it just showed he had captured their attention.

If anything, Young takes delight in the animosity, saying, “If you hate me that much, then it’s obvious that I’m doing the right thing.” He remains focused on his team’s success, believing that winning would ultimately lead to the best kind of victory.

Jalen Brunson, following the Knicks’ Finals win, earned the MVP title. The championship parade is planned for Thursday morning at 10 a.m. ET, winding its way through Manhattan and concluding at City Hall.

Mamdani shared his thoughts about the parade, labeling it a significant milestone and something that generations of New Yorkers have awaited. “This will be the first ever ticker parade in Knicks history,” he said, reflecting on the countless years of hope and heartbreak. “Now that it’s actually happening, there’s really nothing more you could want as a New Yorker.”
