Armed suspect holds hostage in Beverly Hills standoff

Standoff in Beverly Hills Ends with Arrest

A gunman who reportedly held a woman hostage in Beverly Hills has been apprehended after a lengthy nine-hour standoff with law enforcement.

The Beverly Hills Police Department disclosed that an automatic license plate reader had identified the suspect’s truck, linked to an earlier attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy.

The sheriff’s office revealed that, early Sunday around 3 a.m., the suspect allegedly aimed to hit a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputy at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and West 104th Street, close to Inglewood.

Authorities initiated a pursuit after the vehicle was flagged down by the license reader around 1:30 p.m.

This eventually led to a standoff at the intersection of Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way, where the suspect had barricaded himself and the woman inside the vehicle.

By about 11 p.m., the hostage was released, and the suspect was taken into custody. Thankfully, the deputy involved in the earlier incident was unharmed.

As of Monday, law enforcement hadn’t confirmed whether formal charges had been filed against the suspect.

It remains unclear what the relationship is between the suspect and the hostage, and further details about the hostage have not been disclosed.
