Contestant's celebration after criticizing Trump: 'As an immigrant and a person of color ...'

Controversial Remarks from “Jeopardy!” Contestant

A recent “Jeopardy!” contestant has sparked discussion following his win, making numerous comments related to race and immigration after his departure from the show.

His victory came after an impressive 31-game winning streak from March to April, leading to nearly $900,000 in winnings.

Notably, Jamie Ding’s streak ranks as the fifth longest in the game’s history, and his total earnings of $882,605 mark the fifth-highest amount recorded during regular play. Ken Jennings holds the record with over $2.5 million from 74 consecutive wins, slightly ahead of Amy Schneider’s record.

Highlighting Diversity

Ding emphasized that he achieved these honors without being European-American, which he pointed out in an interview with a magazine afterward.

“As an immigrant and a person of color, I felt proud to be part of the history within American educational institutions,” he remarked.

A graduate of Princeton University, he criticized the Trump administration’s approach to deporting undocumented immigrants, describing it as “dangerous.” He expressed concerns about how the federal government has, in his view, intensified its pursuit of immigrants.

Using Fame for Advocacy

Recently, Ding leveraged his fame to support various initiatives, including a housing initiative backed by New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill.

Working as a tax credit program administrator, he noted that his agency plays a significant role in financing low-income housing across New Jersey, claiming, “We have made strides ahead of New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Those states need to step up their game.”

A Personal Connection

Born in Australia to parents from Beijing, Ding has become a naturalized U.S. citizen. Reflecting on his time on “Jeopardy!” he said, “I kept hearing how it brought people together,” and added, “I think it’s nice to do something positive on TV.”

He shared his aspiration to use a portion of his winnings to enhance public transportation in his city, although specifics weren’t clear.
