Fraternity Member Arrested for Alleged Domestic Assault

A fraternity member from the University of Alabama has been arrested following allegations of assault against his former girlfriend. This incident has sparked further developments, including the involvement of her father, a police officer in Long Island, who is now facing his own charges for allegedly confronting the suspect.

Ryan Jeffrey Delafranco, aged 20, reportedly assaulted his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend during a dispute on Sunday, as reported by the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Initially, no arrests were made, but Delafranco later surrendered to authorities and was charged with third-degree domestic violence.

Following his arrest, Delafranco was released on bail set at $500.

Details indicate that the incidents occurred at two different locations in Tuscaloosa.

Before Delafranco turned himself in, a police spokesperson informed that the victim’s father visited Delafranco’s residence and issued threats. This father is a veteran detective with the Nassau County Police Department, though his current role within the department remains unclear.

The father has been charged with harassment and released on a $500 bond, with authorities opting not to disclose his identity to protect the victim’s privacy.

The investigations into the domestic incidents are being handled by the West Alabama Intercept Task Force in conjunction with Tuscaloosa Police.

The fraternity, Theta Chi, announced through its international headquarters that Delafranco is no longer associated with them. A spokesperson clarified that there is no known connection between the fraternity and the allegations against him.

The fraternity encourages anyone with relevant information to assist law enforcement with their inquiries.

Authorities have not shared additional information regarding the events leading up to the alleged assault.
