Poll Reveals American Perceptions on Democratic Immigration Policies
A recent survey conducted by Harvard-Harris University indicates that a significant number of Americans believe Democrats are in favor of open borders.
The poll posed the question, “Do you think the Democratic Party now supports open borders or is opposed to open borders?”
Results show that a majority, about 58%, think Democrats support open borders, while 42% believe they oppose such policies. Interestingly, there seems to be a bipartisan consensus on this matter; 52% of Democrats, 67% of Republicans, and 53% of independents believe Democrats support open borders.
This aligns with the notion that President Donald Trump has a relatively high approval rating regarding immigration, standing at 47%. For context, back in January 2025, former President Joe Biden had an approval rating of just 34% on immigration issues, prior to Trump’s second term.
In the context of important national issues, immigration ranks as the third most pressing concern for Americans, mentioned by 24% of respondents, following inflation and affordability at 35%, and the economy and jobs at 28%.
The survey was carried out between April 23 and 26, 2026, involving 2,745 registered voters, and has a margin of error of approximately 1.87%.
In a related note, last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is criticized by many Democrats and labeled as “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo,” made additional arrests of dangerous illegal immigrants with serious criminal backgrounds. These include convictions for murder and child-related crimes.
Some of the offenders mentioned include:
- Maria Guadalupe Arreola-Rivera, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, convicted of aggravated arson and murder in Cook County, Illinois.
- Ricardo Navadaniel, an illegal alien from Mexico, found guilty of endangering a child’s welfare through sexual activity in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
- Trinidad Manjarez Acosta, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of child sexual exploitation in Mesa County, Colorado.
On the topic of the Biden administration’s approach toward immigration, the DHS noted that a report emerged about an “activist judge” appointed by Biden who freed a violent criminal illegal alien wanted for murder in the Dominican Republic.
DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Biss stated, “Brian Rafael Gomez is a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic who has an active international warrant for murder. An activist judge appointed by Joe Biden released this wanted murderer into an American community. This serves as another instance of an activist judge impeding President Trump’s directives aimed at removing criminal illegal aliens from our neighborhoods.”
