Florida Mother Charged After Youth Football Game Incident
A mother from Florida has been charged with child abuse following a physical altercation at a youth football game in Fort Myers. This incident, which occurred on Saturday, has been confirmed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Renee Lambert, 34, was taken into custody after allegedly kicking a boy during a confrontation that involved Pop Warner players. An arrest report indicated that authorities discovered video evidence showcasing Lambert’s involvement in the altercation.
In addition to the child abuse charge, Lambert also faces charges of resisting an officer. Reports suggest that she became confrontational when an officer attempted to handcuff her, refusing to comply.
The victim’s mother has officially expressed her intention to prosecute Lambert. Body camera footage retrieved by local news shows Lambert disputing with police during the incident.
In the footage, she questions, “So you’re mad that they hit me?” to which the officer responds, “I’m angry that an adult attacked a child. Please stop. You are now being restrained.”
Despite the officer’s warnings, Lambert pushed back, insisting, “No, that’s not it. Goodbye… get your hands off me.”
The police then clarified her status: “You are now being singled out as a suspect. You are being detained.” Lambert seemed to refer to one of the youth players when she mentioned “number 9,” demanding the police pursue him.
When asked about the situation, the officer reiterated, “You are an adult… you are being detained for hitting a child.”
Lambert was seen kicking a player during the scuffle, with additional reports stating that the victim claimed she kicked him while he was on the ground. Witnesses also reported seeing her kick the boy multiple times and push him.
Authorities approached Lambert as she was gathering her things to leave. Following a complaint of a headache, she was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, according to the arrest report.
Lambert is set to return to court on June 1.
