Vivek Ramaswamy Advances in Ohio Gubernatorial Race

Biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has won the Republican primary, defeating Casey Pucci, and is set to challenge Democrat Dr. Amy Acton in the upcoming November election to succeed term-limited Governor Mike DeWine.

As of Tuesday, Ramaswamy, 40, garnered an impressive 85.8% of the votes, while Pucci received 14.2%. This decisive win comes after former President Donald Trump endorsed Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial campaign last November.

“I know Vivek well; I’ve raced against him. He’s special—young, strong, and smart! He truly loves our country,” Trump praised, reminiscing about his three-time victories in Ohio’s presidential elections.

In his endorsement, Trump added that as governor, Ramaswamy would focus on economic growth, lowering taxes and regulations, enhancing trade, and ensuring law and order, among other priorities. “He will be a great man for Ohio, I fully support him,” he said.

Ramaswamy, a native of Cincinnati, is a father of three with his wife, Dr. Apoorva Ramaswamy, who specializes in throat surgery at Ohio State University. During the victory celebration, she animatedly encouraged one of their sons to shout into the microphone, leading to a spirited response from the crowd.

“We believe we have a historic opportunity to elevate Ohio to the best state in the country, where families can thrive and the American Dream lives on,” Ramaswamy remarked following his announcement.

A Harvard and Yale Law School graduate, he began his career trading biotech stocks and later founded Roivant Sciences in 2014 to innovate in healthcare. He shifted focus in 2020 to write “Woke, Inc.” and worked with Elon Musk in establishing the Department of Government Efficiency during Trump’s second term.

If elected governor, Ramaswamy aims to cut property taxes and phase out state income taxes, pledging to streamline government functions. He also envisions Ohio as a leader in education, advocating for higher standards, transparency for parents, and elevated teacher compensation.

Positioning himself as a candidate focused on law and order, he has promised to enforce stricter bail and sentencing guidelines. His backing includes prominent figures like Vice President J.D. Vance and the late Charlie Kirk from Turning Point USA.

Ramaswamy will face Acton in November, who is backed by various organizations including Greater Parenthood of Ohio and Nurses for America, as she seeks to take control of the governor’s office.
