Lawsuit claims GOP Senator Grassley and FBI officials planned a political removal of career agents.

Former FBI Agents File Class Action Lawsuit

A group of ex-FBI agents has initiated a federal class action lawsuit claiming that high-ranking officials, including Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley and Director Kash Patel, have launched an “unfair and retaliatory” effort to dismiss career employees.

The plaintiffs, comprising attorneys Michelle Ball, Jamie Garman, and Blair Tallman, assert that their terminations were not based on performance but were instead retaliatory actions linked to their involvement in an investigation dubbed Frost, which aimed to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Filed in Washington, D.C., the lawsuit contends that these firings were part of an elaborate “feedback loop.” This loop allegedly saw Grassley’s office utilizing unredacted whistleblower documents to pinpoint and publicize the names of agents perceived as politically biased, effectively creating an environment of fear regarding swift dismissals.

Legal documents suggest a coordinated operation between the Senate Judiciary Committee and the FBI’s Office of Congressional Affairs. The plaintiffs argue that Senator Grassley released internal Justice Department records and unredacted emails that revealed the identities of certain agents.

Moreover, the complaint claims that soon after these revelations, Patel and former Attorney General Pam Bondi sought to terminate the implicated individuals without adhering to formal explanations or standard disciplinary practices.

One agent recounted how, despite a two-decade tenure and a record of “Awards of Excellence” and stellar performance reviews, he was summoned to the Washington field office for a termination notice just as he prepared to take his children trick-or-treating on Halloween.

In response, Grassley staunchly defended his actions, stating that his oversight was crucial for “good government.” During a speech in February 2026, he asserted that the documents he made public came from a “patriotic whistleblower” and highlighted alleged politicization of the FBI under the Biden administration.

Grassley contended that the investigators associated with Arctic Frost and other probes involving Republican officials exhibited evident left-wing bias, suggesting that the public had a right to access such information.

He dismissed claims of improper coordination as mere “left-wing media smearing,” arguing they aimed to undermine legitimate oversight of the department’s leadership. Conversely, former employees maintain that termination criteria were based on a “perceived lack of political support” for the administration, which they claim breaches constitutional protections for federal workers.

The plaintiffs argue that by publicly naming these individuals through letters and reports, Grassley bypassed employee protections within the FBI and mounted a “full-throated attack” against them.

The ongoing class action lawsuit seeks not only the reinstatement of the affected employees but also a judicial declaration asserting that the firings constituted a form of political retaliation.
